Christmas is just a week away!

Sergio and Andrea are working around the clock to produce this year’s lineup of artisanal panettone and pandoro. We’re delighted to be listed in Dissapore among some great bakeries in Rome for the best panettone. We also made the list for where to buy pandoro in Rome in 2021.

If you’d like to bring one of our panettone or pandoro to your Christmas table this year, here is some useful information to help make that happen.

What kinds of panettone are you making?

Our 2021 panettone line-up features three special artisanal panettone:

  • Uvetta & Arancia (Classic Panettone, made with raisins and candied orange)
  • Uvetta, Mela & Cannella (Raisins, apple and cinnamon)
  • Cioccolato & Caffè (Chocolate & Coffee)

All of our panettoni are made with our hands in our kitchen in Rome. For this reason, our production is limited to what we can fit in our oven each day. This means we can produce just a couple dozen panettoni and pandori a day, since we still have normal production of breads, pastries and savory items to fill our counter each day.

We use only real, natural ingredients at our bakery, and our panettone is no exception. We use natural Italian flour from Molino Quaglia, a family-owned flour mill located near Padua in northern Italy. We use fresh Italian eggs and full cream butter to give the panettone a soft, airy texture and rich, flavorful crumb. We use candied citrus from Campania and Calabria, dark chocolate (60%) from Côte d’Ivoire and natural flavorings like vanilla beans, fresh honey and rum.

How much are the panettone?

The Classic and Chocolate & Coffee panettoni are both €30, the Raisin, Apple and Cinnamon panettone is €35. All of the panettoni are wrapped in our special 2021 recyclable packaging, made with FSC-certified paper by Fedrigoni, printed and produced in Rome.

Are you making Pandoro?

You bet! We are making a limited run of artisanal pandoro. Like our panettoni, our pandoro is made with Italian flour from Molino Quaglia, fresh eggs and full cream butter. To give our pandoro the signature Christmas flavor, we use natural Italian honey, real vanilla and rum – none of that artificial stuff you find in a lot of pandoro.

Included with your pandoro is confectioner’s sugar, as per tradition. Give your pandoro a healthy dusting of the sugar before serving.

Can I pre-order?

Pre-orders have closed. We are now baking panettone and pandoro to fulfill our current pre-0rders and to stock up our shop. Pass by our bakery this week at via Giusti 18 – 00185 Roma, Monday – Friday 08.30 – 18.00 to make a purchase.

What are your holiday hours?

We are open regularly Monday – Friday from 8.30 – 18.00. We will be closed on Christmas Day (Saturday, 25/12) and the Feast of St. Stephen (Sunday, 26/12).

We will be open 27-31/12 with regular hours. We will be closed Saturday 1 January and Sunday 2 January.

Are you open for lunch and merenda this week?

Yes! We are regularly open Monday – Friday from 8.30 – 18.00. Around 11am Sergio and Andrea begin pulling daily lunch items out of the oven, like our quiche and pizzette with seasonal toppings. Order a baguette sandwich and enjoy it with a glass of wine, a craft beer or an artisanal soda.

Pass by later in the afternoon for a sweet or savory snack and pick up some bread or buns for dinner. We’re open until 18.

After months of hard work, we finally *officially* opened our doors on Thursday, November 18, 2021. The line out the door waiting for the moment was just testament to how much Rome’s Esquilino neighborhood has evolved in the last few years and how much the community is looking forward to new and exciting things to open.

Location

We’re located at via Giusti 18 – 00185 Roma, just around the corner from the newly renovated Piazza Dante and steps from Piazza Vittorio.

Our dining room, designed by Rome-based, all-female Dispensabile Studio, is meant to be a retreat from the bustling urban life outside. Iconic Nordic designs decorate the space, from the large paper lanterns and wooden tables and chairs, to the ceramic and glass tableware. The minimal white walls contrast with the bordeaux-colored bench that runs the entire length of the dining room. Natural light pours into the space all year round through the over-sized windows and entry, creating elegant, playful shadows that animate the space.

Operating Hours

Visit us Monday to Saturday from 8,30 – 18 (until 15,30 on Saturdays).

Breakfast & Lunch

Each day Sergio and Andrea fill the counter and shelves with their naturally leavened breads, buns, pizza and pastries. Enjoy a traditional Italian breakfast of house-made croissants, pain au chocolat, and other sweet pastries with espresso roasted in Rome by our friends at Faro. We also offer a small menu of simple breakfast items, like housemade buns with butter and jam or cheese and prosciutto, and a soft-boiled egg.

As the day toils on, the counter changes to reflect more lunch appropriate offerings, like a daily quiche, baguette sandwiches, and savory pies. We offer organic sodas and juices to accompany your lunch, or take a look at our natural wine list.

Forno Conti & Co. is coming to Rome soon…very soon!

Sergio can’t wait to start pulling fresh loaves of bread out of the oven and start filling the shelves. Our new La Marzocco machine has been set up by our friends at Faro, who roast the coffee we’ll be serving. The architects at Dispensabile are putting the final touches on the counter, shelves, and dining room.  It’s been a labor of love, but one that’s far worth the effort.
